LOTE: LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH

To have another language is to possess a second soul.
— Charlemagne

LOTE is a P&C initiative. Presently languages offered are French, Greek and Spanish and are open to students in years 1 - 6.

Enrolments are $5 per year, paid through Flexischools.

Each class is $15, payable directly to the LOTE teacher at the beginning of each term.

Classes are taught by qualified language teachers with a current Working With Children Check. (scroll down to read the teacher’s bios).

Classes are held at the school and run for an hour. There is a maximum of 12 and a minimum of 6 students in each class. Typically, classes start in week 2 of each term (please note for Term 1 2026 classes will commence in Week 4 17th February). Unfortunately, it is not possible for casual visits.

Getting to the classes: At the end of the school day the students can head directly to the allocated class room, so no need for the parents to get them there. Children who are booked into Coogee Care Centre get signed into CCC then are picked up for LOTE. At the end of the class, they are returned to CCC. Please ensure you advise CCC if your child is booked into LOTE.

If you are interested in other languages such as Italian, German, Portuguese or others you can register your interest through Flexsichools or email lote@coogeepandc.org.au

 Meet the LOTE teachers!

Amandine Germain (French teacher)

My name is Amandine, and I am originally from Haute-Savoie, in the French Alps.

Over the past years, I have had the opportunity to work in international schools in Switzerland and Spain, where I taught children from diverse cultural backgrounds and developed a strong understanding of inclusive and engaging education.

I am truly delighted to be joining the school and to share my passion for the French language with your students. Teaching French is, for me, not only about learning vocabulary and grammar, but also about opening a door to a new culture, a different way of thinking, and the joy of communication.

My lessons are designed to be fun, interactive, and adapted to children’s needs and learning styles. Through games, songs, stories, and creative activities, I aim to spark curiosity, encourage participation, and build students’ confidence.

My goal is to help children discover France and its culture while developing a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the French language in a positive and supportive environment.

Claudia Rodaro (Spanish teacher)

My name is Claudia Rodaro. I graduated as Primary School Teacher and have been teaching since.

In Australia, I did teach to children and was involved in tutoring HSC Spanish students since my arrival. I am currently working as an Early Child Educator.

I was the first Spanish Teacher at Coogee Public School since the creation of LOTE… it is a long time ago and I am very grateful to be here since that time.

The aim to teach other languages, in this case Spanish, is for children to develop a “taste” for it. This will potentially increase their involvement later on into proper learning of the third most spoken language in the World. To this effect, the children should have fun and enjoy the experience of discovering another language and culture.

They will achieve the above through oral communication, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary building and spelling words. These are included in every lesson in an environment that is rich in songs, games and creative experiences.
